Our sweet chestnut shingle, known in the French Alps as a tavaillon, comes in a single size and three finishes: square-cut (our signature), chamfered and fishscale. Every piece is quarter-cleft, stripped of its sapwood, then checked one by one.
The traditional square-cut covering, our signature finish, laid in regular courses. The natural choice for farmhouses, barns, outbuildings and rural properties.
The butt is dressed to a bevel, refining the roofline and letting the full grain of the wood show through. A quiet detail, increasingly asked for on fine restorations.
The rounded butt that marks out the finest roofs. On a roof it gives a perfectly watertight covering; on a wall it draws a play of shadows of great elegance.
The shingles are laid in three overlapping layers (exposure ≥ 100 mm), with staggered joints, on ventilated boarding. An air gap of at least 20 mm and stainless steel fixings make for a roof that lasts a century.
